Gentle oil extraction directly from the seeds

Cold pressing of seeds: Maximum quality without heat treatment

Cold-pressed oil is more than just a trend. It is the result of a precise process in which temperature, pressure and speed must be perfectly balanced. If you don’t want to leave the quality of your oil to chance, you need the right press and the right expertise.

From the initial consultation to production

From cold pressing to bottling: KEK plans, supplies and oversees the entire installation of your oil production plant, acting as your single point of contact.

Why cold pressing places the highest demands on the machine

Cold pressing deliberately avoids the use of external heat sources in order to preserve heat-sensitive ingredients, flavours and nutrients in the oil. This places particular demands on the press: it must build up even pressure, control frictional heat and still deliver a high yield. Too much pressure or the wrong speed increases self-heating and jeopardises the quality of the oil.

KEK screw presses are specially designed for gentle cold pressing. The adjustable shaft speed allows for precise control of the process depending on the seed and the desired oil quality. This enables you to achieve maximum yield whilst ensuring the best possible product quality.

Which seeds are suitable for cold pressing

Cold pressing is suitable for a wide variety of oilseeds. KEK presses process sunflower seeds, rapeseed, sesame, linseed, maize germ, jojoba, jatropha and many other seeds, amongst others. For most raw materials, no pre-crushing or pre-heating is required, which makes the process particularly efficient and resource-friendly.

Depending on the raw material used, the finished oil is suitable for the food industry, the cosmetics sector, the pharmaceutical industry or as a biofuel. As it is produced without chemical extraction or heat treatment, cold-pressed oil meets the highest quality standards and commands correspondingly higher market prices.

Trial pressings carried out directly at the KEK factory

Before investing in an oil production plant, you’ll want to know what the outcome will be. That’s why KEK offers trial pressing directly at our factory. You supply your seeds, we press them, and you can see the results – yield, oil quality and process parameters – before making a decision.

This is a key benefit for anyone looking to develop a new crop, optimise an existing crop, or simply ensure that their investment delivers on its promises. Get in touch with us to arrange a trial pressing. Our experts will guide you through the entire process and advise you based on real results.

Questions about cold pressing of seeds

What oil producers want to know before the start

What is the difference between cold pressing and conventional oil extraction?

In cold pressing, the seeds are pressed without any external heat source. This means that heat-sensitive nutrients, flavours, vitamins and fatty acids are better preserved than with hot extraction or chemical extraction. Cold-pressed oil is considered to be of higher quality and generally fetches better prices on the market. However, the absence of heat places greater demands on the press, as the pressure and speed must be precisely tailored to the specific raw material.

KEK screw presses are suitable for a wide range of oilseeds, including sunflower seeds, rapeseed, sesame, linseed, maize germ, jojoba and jatropha. For most seeds, no pre-crushing or pre-heating is required. If you are unsure whether your seed is suitable, we offer trial pressings directly at our factory so that you can see the results before you invest.

Trial pressings are test runs during which we press your seeds directly at our plant in Remscheid. This provides you with information on yield, oil quality and the optimal processing parameters for your specific seeds. This gives you a reliable basis for your investment decision. Please get in touch with us to arrange a trial pressing.

This depends on your raw material and your planned throughput. The KEK-P0020 is our most compact press and is ideal for gentle cold pressing, with an adjustable shaft speed for optimum temperature control. The KEK-P0103 is suitable for medium-sized operations handling a variety of raw materials. In any case, we recommend carrying out a test press to determine the optimal configuration for your seeds.

KEK supplies wear-resistant replacement and wear parts for all major screw press manufacturers. These include presses from Reinartz, Olier, French, Anderson, Florapower, Induagro, Rosedowns, and many others. If you are looking for a manufacturer not listed here, please feel free to contact us. We will be happy to check availability and compatibility directly with you.
